VTI on CafeF: Smart Warehouse Integrated with Robotics at Sumi-Hanel

VTI recently announced the Phase 2 deployment of a Smart Warehouse project at Sumi-Hanel, highlighting the implementation of a smart warehouse system that combines Warehouse Management System (WMS), robotics, and automation technologies to support Sumi-Hanel’s manufacturing operations.

The article explores how digital technologies are being applied to address increasingly complex warehouse operations in manufacturing. Sumi-Hanel, a large-scale manufacturer with five factories and more than 8,000 employees serving the automotive and motorcycle industries. Against this operational scale, the smart warehouse system is designed to improve efficiency by optimizing storage capacity, reducing manual handling, and enhancing visibility across inbound and outbound processes.

The first phase, launched in April 2026, introduced 1,984 storage positions and integrated WMS with robotic and automated equipment, centralizing information to coordinate material movement and storage across the facility.

VTI supported the project from site assessment and solution design through software development, equipment integration, testing, and operational support. According to Pham Thanh Ha, CTO of VTI, the priority is to align automation with the factory’s operational needs, rather than simply introduce robots.

Building on initial success, Sumi-Hanel and VTI launched the second phase in July 2026. The system is expected to scale to approximately 8,000 storage positions, alongside further automation. The phased approach allows the warehouse to evolve progressively as operational requirements grow.

The project reflects the growing integration of software, physical systems, and automation in manufacturing. This approach is also reflected in VTI’s WMSX solution, which connects warehouse processes, real-time inventory management, production systems, and automated equipment. Through the Sumi-Hanel project, VTI highlights the combination of software development, manufacturing expertise, and automation technologies to help businesses digitalize operations and build more connected factory environments.
