VTI, Cognite, and PV Power Host Digital Twin Workshop for Power Plant Operations

On October 1–2, 2026, at the VTI Building in Hanoi, VTI, Cognite, and Vietnam Oil and Gas Power Corporation (PV Power) jointly hosted the Cognite AI Value Launchpad workshop, focusing on AI applications on the Cognite data analytics platform to optimize power plant operations. The workshop was part of the ongoing Digital Twin project, bringing together the three organizations to demonstrate the system, guide users through its capabilities, and discuss development directions aligned with practical operational needs.

As part of the ongoing development of a Digital Twin for PV Power, the workshop brought together plant operations teams, technical experts, and AI specialists to work directly with the capabilities and components developed as part of the project.

During the program, VTI and Cognite demonstrated the system built on the Cognite Data Fusion platform, using real operational data and context. PV Power’s teams were guided through the system and experienced how to search, access, and explore information related to individual equipment and assets.

These hands-on activities allowed users to interact with the system through practical tasks while discussing their day-to-day needs directly with the implementation team.

In addition to system guidance, the participating teams discussed operational challenges at power plants and potential applications of data, AI, and Digital Twin technologies. Feedback from PV Power’s teams was collected to help identify suitable application areas and directions for further development.

Connecting Operations Teams with Technology Experts

The program brought together leaders, technical specialists, and frontline operations personnel from PV Power. Representing the leadership and Technical Department were Mr. Ngo Van Chien, Deputy General Director; Mr. Pham Viet Hung, Head of the Technical Department; Mr. Vu Tran Giang Nam, Deputy Head of the Technical Department; and Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong, Technical Specialist.

Operations teams from Nhon Trach, Vung Ang, and Ca Mau power plants, along with members of the Maintenance & Repair (TSC) team and the Technical Department, also participated. The direct involvement of the teams who will use the system helped ensure that discussions remained closely aligned with actual operational practices, data usage needs, and challenges at PV Power.

VTI and Cognite also brought together their technology, implementation, and solution consulting teams. From VTI, Mr. Pham Thanh Ha, CTO of VTI, together with the engineering and specialist teams directly involved in implementation, participated in the discussions and system handover. From Cognite, the program included Dr. Park, CEO of Cognite Southeast Asia, and Mr. Ka-Mun Lam, Account Manager, alongside Cognite’s technology experts.

Over the two-day workshop, the three organizations worked together on a shared practical foundation: from the system and data already developed, to exploring data at the equipment level and identifying AI use cases relevant to the operational challenges of PV Power’s power plants.

VTI to Continue Managing and Developing the System

VTI has been involved in the project since the initial assessment phase with Cognite, with its data engineering team contributing to understanding requirements and coordinating the implementation.

The workshop also marked an important step in the system handover to VTI, enabling the team to continue managing and developing the solution on the Cognite platform based on PV Power’s needs. VTI’s team also worked directly with Cognite experts to exchange knowledge on technology, data, and solution development approaches, preparing for the next stages of implementation.

Through collaboration between PV Power, Cognite, and VTI, the workshop connected the system that has been developed with the experience and needs of its users. The feedback and technical discussions throughout the two-day program provide a foundation for further development of the Digital Twin project, intending to support day-to-day operations at PV Power’s power plants.
